THE IRISH CLASSICAL THEATRE COMPANY
ANNOUNCES ITS 2002-2003 SEASON

Treacherous. Steamy. Unpredictable. The Irish Classical Theatre Company today announced its 2002-2003 Main Season and Summer Special productions. All plays will be presented at the Company’s home, the Andrews Theatre, 625 Main Street, Buffalo, New York. The Season was chosen with an eye to presenting a wide variety of exciting and diverse plays, classic and contemporary, by authors of international stature, said Vincent O’Neill, the Company’s Artistic Director. The 2002-2003 Season includes:

Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde

September 12, 2002 — October 20, 2002

A delightful satire on the foibles of Victorian high society.

The sensitive and innocent Lady Windermere is driven to the brink of scandal and ruin as a mysterious woman, new to society and stained with a bad reputation, blackmails her husband with a dangerous secret. As in ICTC’s critically acclaimed production of The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde’s witty and intelligent dialogue is a joy to the ear. Directed by ICTC Associate Artistic Director Fortunato Pezzimenti, Lady Windermere’s Fan features Kristen Tripp Kelley as Lady Windermere and ICTC Artist in Residence Josephine Hogan as Mrs. Erlynne.

The Island by Athol Fugard

October 31, 2002 - November 24, 2002

An exciting collaboration with the dynamic Eager Artists Theatre Company of South Africa

Incarcerated in the infamous Robben Island maximum security prison, John and Winston endure suffering and humiliation by day. At night, laughter serves as a powerful antidote as they create an ironic and scathing indictment of the government of South Africa, their own version of Antigone. While they squabble, the bonds of friendship are forever forged.

What the Butler Saw by Joe Orton

January 9, 2003 — February 16, 2003

A ribald, outrageous, dazzling verbal romp!

In the glorious tradition of high English comedy, this play follows the mutual indiscretions of a randy psychiatrist and his flirtatious wife. Replete with disappearances and disguises, twists and turns, seductions and screwball antics, Orton’s work of lunatic logic has been acclaimed a comic masterpiece. Directed by ICTC Director in Residence Paul Todaro, What the Butler Saw stars ICTC Artistic Director Vincent O’Neill and Artist in Residence Josephine Hogan as the zany couple, Dr. and Mrs. Prentice.

My Sister in this House by Wendy Kesselman

March 6, 2003 — April 6, 2003

A haunting, psychological thriller!

This playbill award winner chronicles the actual events leading up to the sensational 1933 case involving two sisters and the women they serve in Le Mans, France. A subtle and tender yet unflinching tale that will fascinate and intrigue you until the inexplicable final shocking scene. Directed by ICTC Associate Artistic Director Fortunato Pezzimenti, the play stars Kristen Kos and Abby Huston.

Mrs. Warren’s Profession by George Bernard Shaw

April 17, 2003 — May 18, 2003

Censored in London, one of Shaw’s most provocative and witty plays!

Vivie Warren, a bright, ambitious Cambridge graduate is shocked to discover that her resourceful mother has provided for her education and comfortable lifestyle by managing several European houses of ill repute. Through Vivie’s struggle to come to terms with this knowledge, Shaw strips the mask off Victorian society and exposes its hypocrisy. ICTC Associate Director Derek Campbell directs a stellar cast including Paul Todaro and Neil Garvey. Appearing in her ICTC debut is Elizabeth Laidlaw as Vivie. ICTC Artist in Residence Josephine Hogan stars as Mrs. Warren.

Summer Special

One For The Road by Willy Russell

May 29, 2003 — June 22, 2003

A wickedly sarcastic comedy by the author of Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine

On the eve of his 35th birthday, Dennis Cain is suffering from a mid-life crisis. The dreams and desires of his youth have been shattered by the boredom of a middle class existence in an English housing estate. Surrounded by Tupperware parties, Weight-Watchers and wife-swapping, David’s eclectic and erratic behavior serves only to highlight the depths of his spiritual malaise.
